3 Qualities of a Successful Real Estate Agent

When you’re looking to hire a Realtor to help you buy or sell your home, there are a few specific qualities you should look for before anything else. We have three tips to share with you today that will help you find the perfect Realtor to help you buy or sell a home.

#1 – Use the Internet to your advantage.

The beauty of the internet is that you can research the Realtor that you are thinking about hiring. Check out their reviews on websites like Yelp, Zillow, Trulia, Facebook, LinkedIn and even Google. We live in a world where online reviews can make or break a business. If the agent doesn’t have any reviews, you may want to ask for a few references that the agent recently closed transactions with. Remember, the Real Estate agent is applying for a job, and these days it isn’t uncommon for employers and universities to review the social media profiles of applicants. If they don’t have social media profiles, that may be a red flag as it may demonstrative of their online sphere of influence. Over 80% of home buyers start their search on the web.  If your prospective agent can’t do a decent job promoting themselves, how much better do you think their online marketing of your property will be? You might also want to research the agent’s sales history to see what types of properties they sell, where they sell them, and what they specialize in.

If you are thinking of hiring an agent that is new to the business, that’s not necessarily a bad thing. Most new agents have a mentor or a Broker they are being coached by. If so, inquire about who their mentor is and who is going to be supervising the transaction. This shouldn’t insult the agent-especially if you still give them the opportunity to represent you.

#2 – Communication

Communication throughout the entire process is paramount. The agent you’re considering should communicate with you in your preferred method, whether that be through phone calls, text messages, or emails. Let the agent know how you’d like to be communicated with and reach out to them and see how quickly they respond. If they don’t respond quickly during the interview process-that agent definitely wont respond quicker during the transaction. We can all appreciate that a professional works during normal business hours, and you shouldn’t expect an immediate response at 10:45 pm, but there is no excuse for someone not responding to you within 24 hours.

#3- Lone agent or team?

It’s very important to note that one person can’t be everything for everyone. The agent that works with a team is in a much more advantageous position because they have a group of people supporting them, which allows them to focus their time and attention on your needs. As the client, you will always deal directly with the Real Estate Agent as your main point of contact, but they are typically supported by a transaction coordinator, marketing coordinator, web & content support system, and if necessary vendors & contractors.

Communication is absolutely paramount.

These are just a few of the things you should keep an eye out for when hiring a Realtor. If you have any questions or would like some more tips, give us a call or send us an email. We would love to hear from you.
